In 2007, the U.S. Mint began an ambitious new coin series of one dollar coins produced for circulation to honor every U.S. President who served in office. Minted for just 10 weeks, each coin design features a portrait of a different President and the first-ever reverse design to feature the Statue of Liberty. Innovative minting techniques included incuse, or recessed, edge lettering on the sides of the coins with the expression In God We Trust. Only coins from 2007 and 2008 will ever be produced with this edge lettering. Starting in 2009, all future Presidential dollars moved In God We Trust to the face of the coin, thereby making the first two years even more collectible and desirable to own!
