The distinction between U-boat and submarine is common in English-language usage (where U-boat refers exclusively to the German vessels of the World Wars) but is unknown in German, in which the term U-Boat refers to any submarine.

Comments about this product:
I bought this model recently as a companion to my WWII Gato class also offered by the History Channel Store. I find that the detail, and rigging help in ofering the great detail that is added to this model. I also note that this Submarine design shows the true difference between the Axis, and Allied power designs of the period. This also is a wood carved model, and is approximatly the same size as the U.S. version. although just a little larger scale wise (1/125 as opposed to 1/150 for the U.S. version). Having both, they make a real head turner when entering a room. If you so display them I suggest Glass covers made in a glass shop (use a mirror as the back piece of the cover to reflect the back side of this model). This also comes with a 30 day satisfaction guarntee, but I don't feel you'll ever need it.
