Description
Officially authorized by the B&O Railroad Museum. The Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad represents the birthplace of American railroading. When construction began in 1828, the goal was to create a railroad from the port at Baltimore, Maryland west to a suitable point on the Ohio River. In 1833, President Andrew Jackson boarded a B&O passenger car at Relay, Maryland and traveled to Mt. Clare in Baltimore, becoming the first President to ride a railroad. By 1861, the B&O stretched from Baltimore to Wheeling, West Virginia and the Ohio River. The B&O owned more than 75 locomotives, 2,000 freight cars and in excess of 100 passenger cars. During the Civil War, the B&O, or 'iron highway,' played a key role in shuttling troops and supplies back and forth from the Midwest to the East.

Now, you can own a tribute to this marvel of transportation ingenuity with a handsome collector's pocket watch created by The Franklin Mint.
