Description
Millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were melted in the 1920s, making surviving Morgan Silver Dollar coins extremely rare and valuable!
The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of America's most beautiful and most historically significant coins. Named after its designer, U.S. Mint engraver George T. Morgan, the Morgan Silver Dollar was first struck in 1878, using silver from the Comstock Lode in Nevada. The Comstock Lode was the greatest silver discovery in American history, and it continued to provide silver bullion for the Morgan Silver Dollar until the final Morgan Silver Dollar coin was struck in 1921.
Known as a cartwheel because of its large size, the Morgan Silver Dollar was especially popular in the Wild West. In an era when few U.S. coins were found in the Western frontier, the Morgan Silver Dollar was prized for its hefty silver weight. The Morgan Silver dollar was the coin that won the West and which helped America become a world leader in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The obverse of the Morgan Silver Dollar portrays Lady Liberty while the reverse features an American eagle, the symbol of the United States
This is a rare opportunity to acquire 27 of 28 years in which the Morgan Dollar was minted with coins in Very Fine or better condition. To complete your collection, you may also acquire the 1895 Morgan separately on this site.
