Description
From 2004-2006, Canada issued a series of special 25 Cent coins honoring Canada's veterans. This collection includes all three of the special 25 Cent commemorative coins.
The first coin is the 2004 "Remembrance" issue. This was the world's first circulating colorized coin. The image features a maple leaf with a poppy in the center. The poppy is a symbol of remembrance for Canada's veterans; poppies are worn on "poppy day" as a tribute to veterans. The poppy is colored red; the colouring was done at the Royal Canadian Mint using a revolutionary new technique. Coins were released for circulation with the colorized red poppy. The coin was selected as the world's "Most Innovative Circulation Coin" of 2004 by the international Mint Director's Conference.
The 2005 coin honors veterans. It features an image of a young soldier in the background with an old veteran in the foreground.
The 2006 coin commemorates the Medal of Bravery, one of Canada's highest military honors. The coin depicts a maple leaf in the centre, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Each coin is a treasured piece of Canada's history, and together they make a fabulous tribute to the men and women who fought for Canada's freedom.
The obverse of each coin depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The collection comes in a custom display wallet with a Certificate of Authenticity. 6" x 5.5"
