Created in just three months by a team headed by Mauro Forghieri, the 512 S mounted an all-alloy V12 of almost five litres, with four valves per cylinder. The tubular spaceframe was developed from the 330 P4 and the 612 Can/Am, while the bodywork was designed by Ferrari and made from polycarbonate to be light weight.
The Ferrari 512 S was a sports model that raced at the beginning of 1970s in the World Sports Car Championship season. Twenty-five cars were built, 19 were raced in 1970, and among them, 5 cars were Spyders. Nino Vaccarella drove one of these Spyders at the 1970 1000 kilometers of Nürburgring, finishing third with Surtees, despite several pit stops for minor bothers. A really unstoppable car, appreciated all over the world and carefully reproduced in 1:18th scale by Hot Wheels Elite.
