Description

The U.S. Mint is honoring our nation's Presidents with a magnificent series of $1 circulating coins. Beginning in 2007, the Mint is issuing four Presidential $1 coins each year, in the order the Presidents held office.
These impressive coins feature larger, more dramatic artwork – the obverse depicts an official image of the President and the reverse of each coin bears a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty.

Each historic Brilliant Uncirculated coin in this collection can be ordered individually. You can choose coins from either the Philadelphia Mint or the Denver Mint.

Grover Cleveland is the only President to serve two non-consecutive terms (1885-1889; 1893-1897). Considered one of the greatest post-Civil War Presidents, he was the winner of the popular vote for President three times and the only Democrat elected to the presidency in the era of Republican political domination that lasted from 1861 to 1913.

Cleveland’s term was marked by firmness, justice and steady adherence to the principles he deemed salutary to the nation. Opposed to high tariffs, Free Silver, inflation, imperialism and subsidies to business, farmers or veterans, his battles for political reform and fiscal conservatism won him praise for his honesty, independence and integrity and reinforced his appeal to Republicans as well as Democrats.

Called the “Veto President,” Cleveland vetoed 414 bills in his first term, more than double those cast by all previous Presidents. The most important bill vetoed was the Dependent Pension Bill, which facilitated enormous frauds upon the Treasury. He attacked the system with great vigor in his annual message of 1887. He did not propose the adoption of free trade, but the Mills Bill administration tariff measure, although withdrawn, alarmed and exasperated the protected classes, many of whom were Democrats, spurring them to extraordinary efforts to prevent his re-election. He lost to Benjamin Harrison.
