Description

Civil War Gold coins have some of the lowest official mintages ever produced - some limited to just over 1,000 pieces - and are genuinely rare in all grades. The greatest reason so few Gold coins have survived from the Civil War era is that on April 5, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an Executive Order forbidding the ownership of Gold. Americans were ordered to hand over all Gold coins and Gold bullion to the U.S. Government for confiscation and melting. The effect was immediate and dramatic. No Gold coins were spared from destruction, no matter how rare or beautiful, and all Gold coins suddenly became rarer. Hand selected, Very Fine or better.

Composition: .900 Fine Gold
Diameter: 13mm (smaller than a Dime)
Years of Minting: 1861 - 1865 - coins from 1861 or 1862 will likely be sent
