Description

$3 Indian Princess Head Gold Coin

In 1851, the U.S. Mint introduced the first 3ó coin when the postage rate for a standard letter dropped from 5ó to 3ó, making it easier to buy a 3ó stamp. Pennies were hard to find and were often hoarded out of circulation, thereby making it difficult to get change for a higher-denomination coin. So in 1853, Congress authorized the first-ever $3 gold coin, the Indian Princess, making it convenient to buy a sheet of 100 3ó stamps or to exchange for a bag of 100 3ó coins without having to get change!

This $3 Indian Princess Head gold coin was minted from 1854 to 1889 and is composed of .900 Fine Gold. The head of an Indian princess is featured on the obverse and a wreath of corn, cotton, wheat and tobacco is depicted on the reverse. In most years, fewer than 10,000 coins were struck and only a fraction have survived to date...making this not only a unique denomination, but a highly-sought collectible coin!

Don't miss this rare opportunity to acquire a piece of U.S. mintage history today!
