Description

The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States. It was first released by the U.S. Mint on November 24, 1986. Struck only in one Troy ounce denomination, it has a nominal face value of one dollar and is guaranteed to contain one Troy ounce of 99.9% Pure Silver. It is authorized by United States Congress and its weight and content are certified by the U.S. Mint. The design on the obverse was taken from the classic "Walking Liberty" design by Adolph A. Weinman, which had originally been used on the U.S. half-dollar coin from 1916 to 1947.

As this iconic design had been a public favorite — and indeed one of the most beloved designs of any U.S. coinage of modern times, silver or otherwise — it was revived for the Silver Eagle coin decades later. The reverse portrays a heraldic eagle designed by John Mercanti. Every year, the U.S. Mint produces only enough Silver Eagle Dollars to satisfy the bullion dealer demand, thereby ensuring only a limited quantity will ever be minted.

Each coin has been verified and graded to be of Flawless MS70 quality. The coin is either graded by by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS).
