The 2001 White House Historical Ornament. Honors the life Andrew Johnson, who served as the 17th president of the U.S. from 1865-1869. The ornament depicts President Johnson, his children and grandchildren, returning to the White House from an afternoon carriage ride, which was his favorite form of relaxation.
This ornament was designed to recall the era of Andrew Johnson’s White House. A period wallpaper pattern, chosen for the lid of this box, captures the intricacy of the silk-like paper chosen for a redecoration of the White House that began in the summer of 1866. Inside is a beautiful lace vellum, reminiscent of the yards of stylish neo-grec lace that was used throughout the Johnson White House.
As this 24kt. gold finished carriage is unveiled, a nostalgic winter scene is revealed. An 1867 photograph of the south façade of the White House inspired this engraved style illustration. Beautifully handcrafted ornament made in the USA from solid brass, finished in 24 karat gold, screen printed with exquisite color and packaged in a custom box, includes a booklet on President Johnson.
