In 1959, Cadillac® was determined to retain its preeminence in the luxury car market, and so introduced a line of automobiles with major changes both in the way the automobile looked and the technology behind it. And the changes worked - for the 1959 Cadillac® may be the most characteristic of the late 1950s automobiles, and their ultra-luxury remains a high point in automotive history.

The Biarritz was one of three Eldorados offered that year, along with the Brougham and the SeVille. The look was one of low, long, sleek elegance and, indeed, the Eldorado™ was lower to the ground than any car in the industry, with the exception of the Corvette© or Thunderbird. The long wheelbase (130 inches) and the convertible-top design of the Biarritz added to its stylish aura. The Eldorado™ tailfins were pronounced and imposing, inspired by the fighter jets of World War II, and fitted with pods containing turn signals, stop and taillights. Heavily chromed bumpers, grilles and side moldings added a touch of dazzle to the elegance of the Eldorado™ Biarritz and the sweeping lines of the windshield, roof and rear window were the epitome of high style.
